Job Description:
CSULB, recently ranked by US News and World Report as one of the best public universities in the West, is seeking a Construction Manager. CSULB has committed to the improvement and modernization of its various learning environments throughout campus and is in need of an exceptionally organized and self-motivated individual to be responsible for simultaneously managing numerous, campus-wide complex construction projects using outside contractors.
These projects include minor capital outlay, deferred maintenance and repairs, and other facility improvement projects. Determines and coordinates all required inspections and testing. Supervises construction inspectors and engineers and ensures the quality and timeliness of inspections and testing. Reviews bids and specifications during the design stage and recommends changes or modifications. Reviews and approves all project schedules submitted by contractor to ensure minimum campus disruption and maximum cost compliance. The construction manager is a member of a team of highly qualified professionals and works with a variety of colleges and departments throughout campus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Excellent working knowledge of construction practices and procedures including scheduling, field instructions, change orders time and materials, etc. Thorough knowledge of construction engineering methods, practices, procedures, and contract management. Comprehensive knowledge of building, plumbing, mechanical, fire, electrical, Title 24, and California Building Codes. Ability to work independently to identify difficult construction issues, develop and negotiate solutions that represent the best interests of and minimize the risks to the University. Ability to understand complex problems and situations, develop strategies and recommendations. Demonstrated ability to manage resources and control construction costs. Excellent interpersonal skills to work with a large variety of campus "customers."
Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assists in achieving the university's commitment to a vision of excellence.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Baccalaureate in a related area or four years additional equivalent experience, and at least five years of progressively responsible construction and contract management experience in the capacity of a construction manager, project engineer, or similar position. Experience working in a university or large institutional setting or public works environment with public sector open, low bid and job order contracting including the management of multiple complex projects preferred.

Negotiable to $95,000 per year. Full benefits through CALPERS (health, vision, dental, life, tuition fee waiver), generous vacation (24 days/year) and sick leave, and 14 paid holidays each year.
