Job Description:
Seeking qualified individual for the position of Director, Engineering. This position will direct and manage all preventive and cyclic maintenance, repair and construction programs for a large, complex national park concessions operation. The successful candidate will be experienced in managing engineering operations in high volume hospitality operations, possess a strong working knowledge of maintenance, repair and construction operations, have experience in maintaining historic structures, have a proven record of strong leadership and support, exceptional communication and interpersonal relationship skills, a demonstrated ability to solve problems, mentor subordinates, and be a team player.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to the General Manager.
Responsibilities:
1. Cohesive and logistical administration and oversight of all aspects of Engineering, insuring that the conduct of the maintenance and repair operations, engineering and construction management activities, Fire Systems, and Utilities activities for Xanterra in the Engineering Department (to include all locations) meets all company and contractual requirements.
2. Plan, develop and implement procedures for all facilities under Xanterra responsibility for maintenance and repair operations and construction. Provide Director level oversight for the CMMS maintenance management program to minimize downtime of equipment and reduce costly consequences of equipment loss and maximize use of resources (time, money, materials and personnel). Direct all Engineering Department activities with a focus on continual improvement of processes and results.
3. Insure that proper oversight is provided for compliance of regulatory, code, and contractual requirements and required staff training.
4. Plan and implement opening/closing and operation activities for all assigned facilities.
5. Coordinate Engineering activities with Xanterra General Manager, Executive Directors, Directors and Managers.
6. Develop and coordinate maintenance and construction programs with NPS executive and supervisory staff personnel.
7. Maintain professional and credible working relationship with National Park Service (NPS) personnel and agencies, professional services, outside contractors, and vendors.
8. Acts as a resource in support of maintenance and repair, construction activities, Fire Systems, and Utilities personnel.
9. Does non-related job tasks as necessary.
Skills and Knowledge:
1. Must have a B.S. /B.A. degree in Engineering or related Engineering discipline, Facilities Engineering, Construction Management, Building Technology or seven (7) to ten (10) years of professional equivalent managerial/supervisory level experience.
2. Established leadership, management and team-building skills that envelop support, diplomacy and integrity, along with the ability to listen and communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals.
3. Strong commitment to process and change management with the ability to assess department demands and structure, including but not limited to strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats (SWOT) analyses, and evaluations of roles, responsibilities and business processes.
4. Preparation and management of budget program.
5. Preparation and oversight of construction management program.
6. Comply with all current related safety and health requirements.
7. Comprehension of and compliance with all current Company, NPS and associated Federal and State regulatory requirements, policies and procedures.
6. Must possess physical stamina and condition to withstand heavy labor related to work in an outside environment.
7. Must be capable of lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
8. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Authorities:
- Provide technical assistance and advice for all Xanterra assigned facilities.
- Hire/evaluate/discipline/terminate Engineering Department personnel as needed.
- Approve budget expenditures for maintenance and project activities.
- Work directly with National Park Service agencies, outside contractors, vendors and professional services.
- Maintain memberships and coordination with affiliated professional societies and organizations.
- Work with operations, maintenance and location personnel.
