SEATTLE--Jan. 2, 2003--Nationally respected architect and urban planner Lee Copeland, FAIA, has joined Seattle-based Mithun as a Consulting Principal. The announcement marks Copeland's departure from Weinstein Copeland Architects, a firm he co-founded in 1993. "Lee Copeland is one of the most respected national figures in the fields of education, architecture, campus planning and urban design. He is an outstanding addition to our team," said Bert Gregory, AIA, Mithun President & CEO. "Lee's talents and insights will be instrumental as we respond to increasing client demand for our practice in the areas of university master planning, urban design, and large-scale, mixed-use and multi-block projects." Copeland and Mithun have enjoyed a collaborative working relationship over the last decade, including working with Terry Farrell & Partners of London on such high-profile projects as the proposed new Pacific Northwest Aquarium. "I'm drawn to the cross-disciplinary, collaborative, innovative design approach Mithun applies to each project and client," Copeland said. "My experience, I hope, can be a valuable addition to the company as it continues to integrate energy, water, and habitat considerations into new communities, master plans, and urban designs."
