COMFORT SYSTEMS USA ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT OF GARY HESS PRESIDENT AND DIRECTOR

Houston, TX ? February 12, 2002 ? Comfort Systems USA, Inc. (NYSE: FIX), a leading provider of commercial/industrial heating, ventilation and air conditioning (?HVAC?) services, today announced that Gary E. Hess will retire as the Company?s President effective April 1, 2002. He will also retire from the Company?s Board of Directors during the first quarter of 2002.
Hess joined Comfort Systems USA in 1998 when the Company acquired Hess Mechanical Corporation, a major regional commercial/industrial HVAC company based in Washington, DC that Hess founded in 1980. While at Comfort, he has served in several senior management positions culminating in his appointment as President and his election as a Director in 2000. In addition, Hess has been a visible industry leader including service as President during 1996 of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), a major industry organization.
Hess?s operational responsibilities will be assumed by David Lanphar, the Company?s current Senior Vice President ? Operations. Lanphar joined Comfort Systems USA in 1999 as Vice President for the East Region. In 2000, he successfully led his region to win the Company?s Region of the Year Award. He assumed his current position in 2001, with an emphasis on increasing the amount of service business the Company does. Lanphar has over 20 years of experience in the HVAC industry and has held various leadership positions in other HVAC contracting/engineering companies prior to joining Comfort Systems USA.
