ST. LOUIS, - Robert F. McCoole, president and CEO of Alberici Group, Inc., announced today the appointment of Gregory J. Kozicz to president of Alberici Constructors, Inc. (USA)*. Kozicz brings nearly 20 years of experience in construction and economic development to his new position. Working closely with LeRoy J. Stromberg, chief operating officer at Alberici Constructors, Kozicz will be responsible for the overall operations of the company, headquartered in St. Louis. The position was previously held by McCoole, who will now devote his full attention to Alberici Group. Alberici Group is a shared-services company providing support services and resources to its construction-related subsidiaries of which Alberici Constructors is the largest.
Having a different president overseeing Alberici Group and Alberici Constructors was part of a strategic plan and corporate reorganization that began in spring 2002. This new management structure allows Alberici Constructors to better anticipate future growth in markets they serve. "Greg's leadership will bring real value to our clients and their projects. He has an extensive background in all aspects of construction and finance, and the exceptional ability to create a culture where innovative, fresh thinking is encouraged," said McCoole.
Prior to this appointment, Kozicz served as president of Alberici Constructors, Ltd., which specializes in industrial and institutional construction in Canada. During his three-year tenure, the company maintained strong financial growth and was ranked 23rd largest construction firm in Canada by Industry & Commerce magazine. Before joining Alberici, Kozicz spent eight years in senior level positions at Aecon Group Inc., a publicly traded company with operations in construction, manufacturing and environmental operations. Kozicz holds a B.A. in economics and history from the University of Ottawa in Canada. He earned a masters degree in Law and Diplomacy and a Ph.D. in International Relations from Tufts University.
"It is a privilege to be given the opportunity to contribute to a great organization. I'll be working with some of the best construction people in North America and focusing on how best to align their talents in markets where they can add the most value for our clients and Alberici," said Gregory Kozicz. "From an operational standpoint, I expect complete company focus on safety, client satisfaction and profitability," said Kozicz.
Construction companies have traditionally been started as family businesses, and in the case of Alberici Constructors, the family is still very involved. John Alberici, grandson of founder J.S. Alberici, continues to be the driving force behind governance, keeping the company thriving for future generations.
"The construction industry has changed dramatically over the years and competition is fiercer than ever. One of the reasons for our solid growth is our focus on long-range planning. Part of that plan involves having the right leadership, so we are very excited to have Greg at the helm of Alberici Constructors. He will be a tremendous asset in continuing the focus on our core values and strategic planning," said Alberici.
