NEW YORK, April 26 - Bovis Lend Lease, one of the world's leading construction services firms, promoted James Abadie, 46, to the position of Principal-in-Charge of the firm's New York office. In his new position, Mr. Abadie will oversee all aspects of the business, which includes executive direction of all construction operations and growth strategies.
Mr. Abadie joined New York-based Bovis Lend Lease in 1980 and has held numerous supervisory positions throughout his career. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President and General Superintendent of the New York office where his expertise was utilized for the development of complex logistics, field management and the administration of effective field labor relations programs on the firm's most unique and challenging assignments.
No challenge, however, was greater than what Mr. Abadie faced in the days, weeks and months following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Putting his personal life on hold, he made his way downtown and played an instrumental role in transforming the chaos of Ground Zero into an orderly work site. Eventually, his willingness to make hard decisions contributed to his emergence as the point man for the entire operation.
Commenting on the appointment, Peter Marchetto, Chief Operating Officer for Bovis Lend Lease Americas said: "Jimmy's success stems from his ability to manage relationships and people. We are all very excited for him as he embarks on his new role. I am confident that he will successfully maintain our firm's strong reputation in New York City."
The New York office of Bovis Lend Lease LMB, Inc., established in 1979, serves both public and private sector clients throughout the New York metropolitan area. The 550+ professionals in New York manage construction projects of all sizes. The New York team has gained a solid reputation for delivering high quality projects on time and within budget.
"Even though we're recognized as a global leader in the construction industry, the New York office has the feeling of a small, privately-owned company with local expertise," said Mr. Abadie. "It is only with the full advantages and resources of a parent company (Lend Lease Corporation) that allows us to pursue any project regardless of size, scope or complexity. For example, we have recently been appointed to manage the construction of the new Fulton Street Station -- a multi-million dollar transportation project in Lower Manhattan. I look forward to bringing and growing new opportunities, such as the transportation sector, to the forefront in New York."
In addition to his responsibilities at Bovis Lend Lease, Mr. Abadie serves as the Chairman of the Contractor's Association of Greater New York (CAGNY) where he held the title of President. He also serves as Co-Chairman of the Building Trades Employers' Association (BTEA). He is a graduate of the State University of New York's (SUNY's) College of Environmental Science and Forestry (conferred by Syracuse University) where he earned a degree in Construction Engineering; he also holds an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Civil Technology from SUNY @ Farmingdale. Mr. Abadie resides in Cortlandt Manor, New York with his wife Bonnie and three sons.
