Deerfield Beach, Florida ? Attention to quality produced a successful year for MAPEI Americas in 2003, with all signs pointing to continued market penetration through positive brand recognition in 2004. Improved logistics capabilities, greater customer satisfaction, manufacturing facility expansion and focused technology development played key roles in the company?s double-digit growth during tough economic times.
Recognizing that fast, accurate deliveries were essential to helping customers manage their supply chain efficiently, MAPEI took advantage of forward-looking logistics software and the internet to provide the best freight service for the best price. Customer satisfaction has become a metric by which the entire company measures itself. An innovative customer service initiative translates ongoing survey responses into a Customer Satisfaction Index based on an industry-derived standard. Responsible departments quickly act upon customer input and suggestions. Results of follow-up surveys demonstrate the benefits of this pro-active self-examination. Lou Bender, Director of Materials Management and Logistics for MAPEI says, ?Our customers really appreciate the attention and the opportunity to express their needs and concerns to us, and it gives us the chance to improve the whole customer service process.? - more - Increased demand (over a billion pounds of product was shipped in 2003) requires expanded manufacturing capacity. MAPEI has begun construction on a new production facility in San Bernardino, California. Designed by Italian architect Rafaelle Greco, the 110,000-square-foot plant will be highly automated and efficient. It will initially produce mortars and grouts; later, concrete restoration products will also be manufactured here.
The fourth contribution to MAPEI?s quality efforts may well be the most important ? quality products developed with quality technology. In 2004 MAPEI is undertaking a campaign to highlight its products that incorporate the company?s BioBlock? technology for antimicrobial protection.
