CHICAGO, -- The following is a statement from Builders Association of Greater Chicago: "The Builders Association of Greater Chicago, the metropolitan area's leading and largest industry trade group representing commercial construction companies, supports the efforts announced today by State Senate President Emil Jones and State Senator James Meeks to increase the number of trained and qualified minority workers in the local construction industry. Everyone benefits from having an increased number of qualified workers involved in construction. Training programs are key to the future of our industry, as is designing programs to advance diversity and related job opportunities for all.<P>There are a number of local trade union training programs already in place that serve as models, such as the apprentice program run by the Chicago and Northeastern Illinois District Council of Carpenters. We look forward to working with Senators Jones and Meeks to realize their goal of increasing the number of minority workers in the construction industry."
