FREMONT, Calif.---Oct. 16, 2003--Pricing for the Construction Communicator(TM) online-construction management service (www.constructioncommunicator.com) has been lowered more than 50 percent. Fees for set up and the first month's service are waived for projects set up by December 31, 2003.
Construction Communicator enables owners, contractors and architects to post and view Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals and change-order documentation; and allows project and construction managers to view, coordinate and help resolve outstanding issues. The online subscription service accommodates projects using "hard-money" design-bid-build, design-build and multiple-prime contracting.
Monthly charges start at $500 for each project, with discounts for more than three concurrent projects. The monthly fees cover maintenance, technical support and Internet hosting. The new pricing means that, for a limited time, companies can literally try out the system for a month, at no cost.
"We recently improved our set-up and maintenance systems to reduce costs across the board," said Richard Sampson, president of Richard Sampson Associates, developer of Construction Communicator. "We are passing these savings on to enable more people to reap the benefits of online construction management."
Major Features & Benefits
Construction Communicator differs from most of its competition in its ease of use, focus on time-critical information and respect for confidentiality.
Ease of use -- The online construction management system is simple to use because it employs familiar methods for formatting and presenting information. Construction Communicator automates the AIA contract administration process that construction professionals have refined over many years.
Focus on time-critical information -- The intuitive Web-based service focuses on getting the critical information needed to keep projects on track and moving forward on a daily basis.
Respect for confidentiality -- Construction Communicator preserves the private exchanges of information between subcontractors and the general contractor before a RFI is released, and between the architect and the architect's consultants before a RFI response is released to the entire team. This minimizes cross-communication and unauthorized approvals.
How it Works
Using intuitive online forms, the general contractor can submit questions to the architect who can either answer them directly or forward them to design consultants, using Construction Communicator. Similarly, submittals, change orders and proposal requests can also be tracked online.
The architect posts the responses on the Web, where they are available for all team members to see. Other types of information (such as CCDs, submittals and change-order actions) can also be posted and tracked online. Using the system's integrated email capability, the architect can alert consultants that information has been posted.
Secure navigation gives the general contractor exclusive access to a subcontractor's RFI question before it is forwarded to the architect. Similarly the architect has exclusive access to a subconsultant's RFI response before forwarding it to the general contractor.
The CMLog(TM) shows a summary of the communication between the general contractor and architect. Users can easily toggle between the summary log information and individual screens to view detailed information. Additional logs summarize the status of submittals and other processes.
Automatic counters track the elapsed response time, enabling the project and construction managers to identify delays and help resolve outstanding issues.
Throughout the process, the information is updated in real time; the logs are always up to date, and everyone can view identical information.
Documents can be easily uploaded for use in the system, providing a single interface for distributing drawings, schedules, meeting agenda and the like. Additionally, Construction Communicator can easily link to other Web services, such as CAD drawing management services.
