MetLife Acquires Sears Tower

NEW YORK--Aug. 28, 2003--MetLife, Inc. (NYSE:MET) today announced that Metropolitan Insurance and Annuity Company (MIAC), a subsidiary of MetLife, has acquired Sears Tower in Chicago, Illinois.

Through this action, MetLife will be able to manage the long-term strategy of its investment. Trizec Properties will continue to act as property manager and leasing agent on Sears Tower.

MetLife expects this transaction will have an insignificant impact on the risk based capital of MIAC and will have no impact on the risk based capital of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. MetLife also anticipates that the transaction will have an insignificant impact on its earnings in current and future periods, and does not anticipate it will result in any asset impairments or writedowns.
