Cousins Properties Adds Erskine Bowles to Board of Directors; Election of Former White House Chief

ATLANTA--Aug. 19, 2003--Cousins Properties Incorporated (NYSE:CUZ) announced today that Erskine B. Bowles has been elected to its Board of Directors, expanding the Company's Board to nine members.

A native of Greensboro, N.C., Mr. Bowles has previously served on the board of directors of Merck & Co., Wachovia Corporation, VF Corporation, Community Healthcare Corporation, McLeod USA, Inc. and Citadel Communications. He currently serves on the Board of Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation.

Mr. Bowles began his business career in the corporate finance department of Morgan Stanley & Co., in New York and later founded Bowles Hollowell Conner & Co. in Charlotte. Mr. Bowles also co-founded the merchant bank, Carousel Capital Company and was a partner in the New York private equity firm of Forstmann Little & Co.

Mr. Bowles' public sector career began as Administrator of The U. S. Small Business Administration, where he is credited with reorganizing the agency to make it more efficient and effective in providing capital to America's small businesses. He later served as Chief of Staff to President William J. Clinton and also served on both the National Security Council and National Economic Council and as a member of the President's Cabinet.
