NEW YORK, -- Dorothy L. Alpert has been appointed national leader of the Real Estate, Hospitality and Construction practice of Deloitte & Touche LLP, one of the nation's leading professional services firms. In her new role, Alpert is responsible for overall practice strategy and business development, revenue growth among all industry segments, development and deployment of practice personnel, maximizing the use of technology to enhance client service capabilities, and overseeing quality assurance, internally and externally. Deloitte & Touche's Real Estate, Hospitality and Construction practice comprises 2,500 audit, tax, and consulting professionals throughout the United States that serve more than 1000 clients in the real estate, hospitality and construction industries. Alpert succeeds Rick Carlson, who has served as the industry leader since 1989 and helped grow Deloitte & Touche's U.S. real estate practice to almost $350 million in annual revenues. Carlson will now focus on expanding Deloitte & Touche's global Real Estate, Hospitality and Construction practice. He will continue his senior partner role in the U.S. market and represent Deloitte & Touche within key business and trade organizations. Alpert has more than 20 years experience in professional services, including nearly 15 years in the real estate industry. She joined the firm's real estate consulting group in 1987 and was admitted to the partnership in 1999. As a senior member of the real estate practice, Alpert led many corporate real estate projects for Deloitte & Touche and served some of the firm's largest clients. For the past four years, Alpert has served as Chief of Staff to William G. Parrett, now CEO of the global firm, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. In this role, she has been very involved in the development of Deloitte & Touche's U.S. strategy and has directed many of the firm's business initiatives. Alpert is a member of the board of directors of the New 42nd Street, and a trustee of the Canterbury School. She and her husband, Morrey Halfon, and their two children, Aaron (12) and Rachel (5) reside in New York City.
