Michael Baker Corporation (Amex: BKR) announced today that Richard W. Giffhorn, president of the company's Baker Energy unit, has resigned effective June 30 to accept the position of chief executive officer with RST, Inc.
Rex P. Doyle, senior vice president of marketing at Baker Energy, will assume interim leadership of the unit and work with the existing management team to continue to execute on its strategy for growth and profitability.
Doyle joined Baker in 2000 from Enron Corporation, where he was director of account management for Enron Energy Services. For the past year, he has headed the overall marketing practice for Baker Energy, and led the recent effort to secure a multi-million-dollar contract from BP for the operation and maintenance of certain of its deepwater Gulf of Mexico operations.
The company has retained the services of executive search firm Spencer Stuart, which has already initiated the process to identify a successor to Mr. Giffhorn. "I regret Dick's leaving, as he has been influential in reestablishing Baker Energy's focus on customer commitment and operational excellence," Donald P. Fusilli, Jr., president and chief executive officer, said. "We wish him well in his new position with RST, which presents him with a unique opportunity to build a business in the drilling side of our industry."
