John Stropki Appointed Chief Operating Officer at Lincoln Electric

Lincoln Electric Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: LECO) today announced that John M. Stropki, Jr., has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Company. As partof his new position, Mr. Stropki will retain responsibility for the Company's North American subsidiary, while broadening his scope to include regionalresponsibility for Lincoln Electric Europe, Lincoln Electric Latin America and Lincoln Russia, Africa and the Middle East, with Presidents for those regions reporting to him.
In making the announcement, Anthony A. Massaro, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said: "John is the right individual to take on the challenges of managing these key subsidiaries of our growing enterprise. He has done an outstanding job in leading North America, and I know he will bring the same vigor in taking on the challenges and opportunities we face in global markets and enhancing our position worldwide."
Mr. Stropki, who has been with Lincoln Electric for more than 30 years, has been Executive Vice President and President, North America since 1996 and was elected to the Board of Directors in 1998.
Before joining the Company full time in 1972, Mr. Stropki worked summers in the factory while attending college. After joining the Company, he worked in the Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and Chicago district offices and later served as District Manager for the Company's offices in Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Stropki became National Sales Manager for Canada in 1992 and was named Senior Vice President-Sales, responsible for both the U.S. and Canada, two years later.
Mr. Stropki earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University and an MBA degree from Indiana University. He is a recipient of Purdue University's 1998 "Outstanding Industrial Engineer" Award.
Mr. Stropki is an honorary member of the American Welding Society, serves on the Manufacturers Alliance/MAPI Presidents Council and is a member of the Gas and Welding Distributors Association. He is on the Board of Governors of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association and the Greater Cleveland Growth Association's Board of Directors.
He is active in the American Lung Association and served as Volunteer Chairman for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Campaign in 2002 in Lake County, Ohio.
