Hovnanian Enterprises, Inc. Appoints Edward A. Kangas to Board of Directors

Hovnanian Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE:HOV) , a leading national homebuilder, announced today that Edward A. Kangas has been appointed to the Company's Board of Directors. The Company also announced that two employee Board members, Peter S. Reinhart, Senior Vice-President and General Counsel, and Paul W. Buchanan, Senior Vice-President and Corporate Controller, have resigned from the Board. Following these changes, the Company's Board is now comprised of four members of the Company's management and five independent members.
Mr. Kangas is the former Chairman and CEO of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, the parent company of Deloitte professional practices worldwide. Since his retirement from Deloitte, he has continued to serve actively as a consultant to the firm as well as Chairman of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, one of the largest health-related organizations in the country.

"Ed's extensive background and knowledge of business will bring tremendous perspective to our Company," he said. Mr. Kangas joined Touche Ross in 1967 and became a partner in 1975. He was elected as Managing Partner and Chief Executive of Touche Ross in 1985, and was one of the chief architects of the 1989 global combination of Deloitte Haskins & Sells and Touche Ross. From 1989 to 1994, he served as Managing Partner of Deloitte & Touche (USA). From 1989 to 2000, Mr. Kangas served as Chairman and Chief Executive of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, designing and completing the integration of the worldwide firm. Under his leadership, the firm grew from $4 billion in revenues in 1989 to $13 billion in 2000.
Mr. Kangas received a Bachelors degree and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Kansas, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
In addition to serving as Chairman of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, he is also a trustee and member of the Policy Committee for the Committee for Economic Development and is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Directors' Table.
Mr. Kangas has served as a member of the Board of Overseers of The Wharton School. He is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Kansas Endowment Association and a member of the University of Kansas Business School of Advisors.
