Robert C. Van Cleave Named as Chairman of Centex Construction Group

DALLAS, April 14 -- Centex Corporation (NYSE: CTX)announced today that Robert C. Van Cleave has been named Chairman, President and CEO of Centex Construction Group, effective immediately. He succeeds Bob L. Moss, who recently left the company.
Mr. Van Cleave, 43, has been President and CEO of Dallas-based Centex Construction Company (CCC)-Southwest, a Group subsidiary, since 1996. His successor in that position will be named in the next few weeks. Mr. Van Cleave and the Centex Construction Group will continue to be headquartered in Dallas.
Mr. Van Cleave has spent more than 22 years in the construction industry in both the public and private marketplace. His broad construction experience has included negotiated and competitive-bid projects and nationally recognized corporate, hospitality, healthcare, education and entertainment facilities.
A native of Kerrville, Texas, Mr. Van Cleave graduated from Texas A & M University (TAMU) with a B.S. in building construction in 1981 and began his career the same year as a field engineer with The Clark Construction Group. There, he continued through the ranks to Vice President of Preconstruction, then to Senior Vice President of Operations before joining CCC-Southwest in 1996.
Centex Construction Group is the contracting services subsidiary of Centex Corporation, which is listed for the eighth consecutive year as one of the nation's top five contractors and was recently ranked No. 1 in domestic general building revenue for the third straight year by Engineering News- Record magazine.
