Home Building Experts Address Challenges of
Risky Business''; Risk Is Threat to Strength of Housing Market; Seminar at The 2003 International Builders' Show Offers Solutions

2003 International Builders' Show (IBS)

LAS VEGAS--Jan. 17, 2003--Today's severe liability insurance crisis, along with burgeoning construction defect lawsuits and the increased focus on mold issues, threatens the continuing strength of the nation's housing market.

And this dire situation is demanding more effective risk- management strategies of homebuilders, from implementing quality assurance programs to owner-controlled insurance plans.

A panel of legal, construction and homebuilding experts will review the available options to avoid, shift, minimize or insure risk in a seminar titled "Risky Business: Effective Risk Management Techniques for Home Builders," scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23, between 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. at the 2003 International Builders' Show (IBS), taking place next week at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Stan Luhr, founder and president of Quality Built(TM), the nation's largest independent builder risk management firm, will describe how builders can reduce construction risk while delivering a better, safer and more energy-efficient home.

Dave Beck, Nevada area director of purchasing for Pulte Homes, will share the builder's perspective on risk management challenges and solutions, while Greg Econn, president of James Econn & Co. insurance brokers, will discuss current insurance-coverage issues.

Acting as moderator is Sandra Stewart, a partner and co-chair with Cox, Castle & Nicholson LLP, one of the nation's largest law firms devoted to real estate and financial services. She has extensive experience representing developers, homebuilders and lenders in complex insurance coverage, construction and business litigation matters.

The International Builders' Show, the home building industry's largest convention and exposition, is produced by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). For more information, visit www.buildersshow.com.

Quality Built(TM) is active on more than 600 construction sites in 12 states, helping builders and their risk partners identify, contain and resolve construction claims and customer service problems through a "systems" approach to quality, which includes building plan review; field training and education; and third-party inspections conducted by specially trained consultants.
